GORDON AND SAUSAGE (formerly TEX)
ADOPTED APPROXIMATELY 2003
 Sausage
Gordon
Hi Chris,
I was cruising the dachshund rescue sites and came across your new site.
I thought you might like seeing pics of the two boys we adopted from you a
few years back.
We got Gordan the long-haired red with the crooked nose in Jan. 2003. He is
still a
sweetheart.
In Nov. of the same year we adopted a scrawny little black wire hair named
Tex. He is now lovingly known as Sausage.
Thought you might like to see another happy ever after.

Pumpkin has been adopted and is happily and lovingly being spoiled in her
new home.

UPDATED 4/22/2008
CHRIS,
Lucy is playing me like a cheap fiddle. I have even been
accused by my wife as taking better care of the dog, than I
do her.
She is saying that because she just got out of the hospital
after a 2 week stay. My wife got a bad bug that was resistant
to antibiotics.
I wanted to tell you that I am sending you another $50.00.
Please consider it a donation to help feed the dogs you are
caring for. It might get you another week of dog food.
Speaking of dog food, Lucy is now placing a special order
everyday out of the Stater Bros meat display counter. She is
getting away with it because she seems to be smarter than
her master. I've gone along willingly because the internet
has done a job on the pet food industry, even saying that
put-down dogs are in their mix labeled as animal by-products.
I took Lucy for her first walk a few days ago. She was so
nervous
that she wouldn't even take her first step, so the big dummy
carried her for at least a mile. Then when I set her on the
ground
for the fifteenth time, she finally realized that if she
didn't walk,
she couldn't get back to home of the good life. She actually
does
a good job of walking.
When it comes to the food issue, if you have time,
please email
me and tell me what kind of dog food she WOULD eat while in
your care. I am cooking way too much.
The other day one of the neighbor's cats jumped our fence
into
the back yard. Lucy was an interesting display of NOT what
to
do when an intruder comes into your space. Rather than taking
on the nasty old cat, she ran around the pool and barked,
always
from a 50 foot distance away, while shaking in her own boots.
Finally the cat got bored and left!
To have enough space on my own bed for me to lay, I went to
Walmart and purchased a dog bed, which I place on top of my
bed.
It defines the space where I want her to lay, and seems to be
working most of the time.
I am in the process of cutting a dog door in the back wall of
the
house to help her improve bathroom habits.
I looked at her this morning and I think she is showing some
porterhouse weight gain. In my next life I want to be a
rescued
dog!
I should sign off, I am starting to ramble. I hope all is
well with you.
The check will be in the mail in the next few days.
Thanks for all your efforts
Richard Evans
UPDATED MARCH 2008
CHRIS,
I hope you find humor in this. It is written with that in mind.
Lucy is quite a dog. It is amazing how 10 pounds can almost
rule the world. Her personality is changing by the minute, and we
are having fun with her.
1) She has already ordered porterhouse steak for dinner.
2) She not only insists in sleeping in my bed, but sleeps so close
that I feel like I might fall out of bed.
3) If she doesn't get her way, she will put her dry food in the water bowl.
to soak.
4) She doesn't want just one or two rooms of the house. She wants them
all.
5) She has met the neighbor's dogs, but doesn't want to associate
with them because they are just too butt ugly.
6) She is slowly learning where the outdoor restroom is.
7) She is the most affectionate animal I've known.
8) The entire half acre has been explored many times.
Overall, we give her a 10+ on her good days. With time she will relax,
and feel like she owns it all.
Thank Syd for his shuttle service again, it worked well. I gave him cash,
and I'm hoping that got back to you. Please tell me if we have been fair
with you on her cost. I noticed that you didn't bill me any more for the few
days I may have held you up, while we were on vacation. If you need
anymore, please send me your address and I will send you a check.
I hope this email gives you good feelings for your efforts for these
helpless animals. I wish we could deal with more, but Lucy is filling
the empty places in our hearts.
Thanks again
Richard Evans
Angel (Formerly Kizzy)- Adopted in February 2008

We are so very happy to have found Angel her forever home,
she is truly a special lady who is not only beautiful inside and out, but
will be able to live her life with her forever family in comfort and love.

Duchess and Heidi- Adopted in 2004
We love updates from Duchess and Heidi. Heidi was a puppy mill
mama, who came to rescue, unbeknownst to anyone pregnant. After several
weeks she soon gave birth to five beautiful little puppies. The puppies
were soon to be named, Hank, Tank, Duchess, Annie and Dixie the other little
one went to a home and has not given us an update so we are unsure of the
current name. Annie Kay is currently living with the Anderson's, Dixie is
living with Anderson's in-laws, Tank is still with rescue and Hank is in a
happy home in Southern California. When the furmomma of Duchess saw the
mama Heidi, she became very fond of her. A few weeks later, Heidi was going
home with her daughter Duchess and her new momma Denise. Here is an update
from Duchess herself.
Hi all!
Me and my furmomma are just as happy as can be
with our human mommy, Denise. She lets me crawl, cold nose first, all the
way down in the covers at night to sleep, while Heidi sleeps on the pillow
by her head. We follow our mommy everywhere she goes almost tripping her
because we want to stay close. Heidi had some xrays done and the nice Dr.
says that she has an enlarged heart, but mommy already knew that ‘cause
Heidi loves her so much! She also has some mammary lumps that need to be
taken off, but she is still just as happy as can be. I have grown into a
very beautiful little girl with a very soft, velvety coat and a tongue
that just loves to give kisses all over mommy’s face when she comes home.
Our sissy Deanna nursed a little Chihuahua
back to health from almost going to doggy heaven from parvo and she
brought him home for me to play with when he was all better. I just love
him and we play all the time. I’m sending you a picture of all of us in
our bed snuggling together.
We would love to have our pictures on your
website so that everyone can see how happy we are. I would really like to
come see everyone if mommy can ever find the time.
Love,
Duchess

Buddy- Adopted January of 2008
Chris,
Buddy and I are doing just great. He is definitely a one-person dog and
is getting very used to things around here. He is beginning to socialize
with smaller dogs and is getting used to other people as well. He is just
the best and I am so glad that we are together. Here are some pictures of
him and one of he and I.
A friend of mine Ed Watson has a male dachshund and is interested in
adopting a little female as well. He is a wonderful person with a nice
place and very kind. I have referred him to you site.

Mercedes- Adopted in January of 2008
Hello!
It has been over a month now since I adopted my puppy from your rescue
shelter. I wanted to let you know that she is doing quite well! I call her
"Sadie" and she has definitely made herself at home here with us. Her and
Beans are the best of friends. She is so playful and very affectionate.
She already knows where the treat cupboard is and what "Do you want to go
for a walk?" means. :) I love walking her in the mornings and taking her to
run errands with me. She loves riding in the car! Everyone who meets her
says she is so cute, and although she is friendly she is definitely a
mommy's girl! :)
Thank you for making this possible. Enjoy the pictures I attached!
Blessings,
Becky Wager

HOPE- ADOPTED BY VET TECH FROM NEW VET'S OFFICE IN DECEMBER OF 2007

November 2007
This is Hope. Little Hope was a puppy mill turn in. As you can see by the
little paw...if you want to call it that. That little hope has her paw skin
but that is about it. Apparently, we have been told by other rescues that
there is a breeder in the San Diego area that is breeding these types as
well, and they keep on doing it. Don't despair or worry about little hope
though. This is only a minor set back for her. It does not keep her from
running to her food bowl every day nor does it keep her from playing hard
with all the others.

CLAIRE- Adopted in October of 2007
Claire found her forever home. We are so happy that we could find her a
home so quickly. We are awaiting new updates and pictures to come!

BERNIE SUE- ADOPTED AUGUST 10, 2007

Hi
Chris
Well,
Bernie Sue is just wonderful. She has made friends with Raisin and Paul
very nicely. She stands still and lets them sniff her all over and seems to
not mind. She sleeps with Raisin in the big chair in our bedroom. I am very
happy that Raisin is so tolerant and I give Raisin a ton of extra love so
she will not get jealous. I will get a picture off to you as soon as I get
organized. Molly does not seem to be bother either way, what an odd duck
she is, but she seems content enough.
So the news is good from the Whitmeys. Anna and Doug came over last night
for dinner to meet Bernie Sue. They want to do time share doggie ownership
with her. I will let them take her on weekends in a couple of weeks.
Everybody is happy.
thanks a bunch, she is the perfect dog for us.
love Roxanne

Oggie- Little Redheaded
Male from Sarah's Litter
-Adopted July 2007
Updated July 23, 2007
We had a blast (as did the dogs), not only did they have fun at the Parade
they got to play with our friends dogs Abby and Elvis. Sophie and Oggs even
ganged up on Elvis and took away his toy (hes a sheltie pup)-- dont get me
wrong.. when I say ganging up it was non- aggressive, but its funny seeing 2
dogs walk away with one bigger dogs toy.
Larry was very proud of his little man.
Last weekend they traveled up to the San Francisco area with us to visit
with our friends kids. My friends husband kept telling Oggie that he needed
to watch out because he was dragging his transmission on the ground.
The dogs will probably be disappointed this week as were not going anywhere!
LOL
its great fun though.. and theyre wonderful little people, I mean dogs ;-)
Anyway-
here is a pic of Oggie and Sophie napping in the wagon in between events.
You will be happy to know Oggie took best kisser and best in show. He is our
little love bug- Maybe we should have named him Romeo.

SADIE- ADOPTED IN MARCH 2007

Chris,
Sadie has made herself perfectly at home... she's tuckered out, curled
up sleeping on the couch, perfectly wedged between my mom and sister.
When we got home she immediately sniffed every inch of the house...
Clyde followed, completely bewildered.
She ate like a champ and she flips onto her back every chance she gets
since it gets cheers and clapping from us every time.
Thank you so much for allowing us to adopt Sadie, she's already proven
to be the perfect addition to our family.

Kaiser-
We
are so very happy that Kaiser, has found himself a new forever home. He was
with us a very very short time, but we are happy that we were able to
transition him quickly into a new forever home. We are very anxious to
recieve new pictures of Miles in play and recieve new updates of him!!!

Slinky and Stretch-
Adopted on February 1,
2007
Slinky and Stretch are a pair of bonded 5 year old mini black and tan fur
kids. The pair were turned over due to a new baby in the home and another
on the way. They are loves and now have a happy new home with a mommy and
daddy who will love them and spoil them to pieces. We are very anxious for
pictures and updates.

Mason and
Gracie -
(formerly known
as "The Twins" Adopted January 2007)
Mason-
Gracie
-

Mason and
Gracie were dubbed "The Twins" or "The Terrorists" by rescue because they
loved to run through the house, bark, play wrestlemania roughly with the
others and generally cause a stir throughout the household, while in foster
care. They were adopted by their new family in Fresno, California in the
beginning of January 2007. What a great way to start off the new year for
these two! These two have a great new home and are the spoiled little ones
that they deserve to be! We are happily awaiting new pictures and new
updates about them to come.

Candy- Adopted
January 26, 2007
updated
pictures of Candy:
Spoiled rotten and deserves it!
Candy is a great example of what we here in rescue promote. "The perfect
fur-kid for the perfect family". From the beginning Candy displayed
behavior which made it very difficult for us to consider placing her with
any home but a female only home. Candy was a puppy mill turn over (who
still bares the tattoo in her ears which display, not her name, but her
number). This little girl loves to shock us! We were shocked to find Candy
had given birth, just a day after we had taken her over a little over two
years ago. Then we were shocked to find that the mill that had turned her
over did not even know she was pregnant with the lone beautiful puppy girl
that she gave birth too.
After she had
given birth to her puppy, she and her little girl named "Angel" became very
very attached to one another and for a while we were considering adopting
them out together because they depended so much on each other. Soon though,
they began to grow apart and we were comfortable adopting them out
separately. Fortunately for Candy's baby she was adopted in August of
2006. Candy soon became independent and socialized with the other dogs in
the foster home. Despite all of her socialization and progression, she was
still afraid of males.
So once again,
we were all very shocked to find her little tail wagging the day her new
mommy and daddy came to visit her on January 26, 2007. She spent her first
night in her new home making herself at home and going to her Daddy's side
of the bed. With a quick wag of the tail she was scooped up and placed in
the big bed with her mommy and daddy.
We here at
rescue could not be more happy for this whole situation. When it comes down
to it, Candy was simply waiting for the right mommy and daddy to come
along. We are all looking forward to more pictures and updates for Candy to
come!!!
February 2,
2007 Update:
Hi Chris,
Candy is continuing to do well.
Her little tail is finally unwrapping itself out from under her behind.
We think she is slowly becoming comfortable in our home. We still haven't
heard a bark. I know you mentioned that one of the puppies had been
debarked. Was it Candy? Yesterday was the first time I had to go to work
and be gone all day. Needless to say I was very anxoius about leaving her
with her new Dad all day. Fritz said she looked for me for a little while
after I left and then she attached herself to him. He told me later that
he was so flattered because he had been feeling just a little jealous that
she seems to have favored me up to this point. He had to leave for a few
hours yesterday for work and he just couldn't bring himself to leave her
so she went with him to a pre-recording session at a studio in West LA.
He is such a pushover! Candy was the hit of the studio!
We are so happy to see her
slowly coming out of her shell. We read on another rescue site that it
can take up to 4 weeks for a rescue dog's true personality to come out.
I'm sure you have experienced this. So it's kind of like slowly
unwrapping a Christmas gift. Every day we see a little more of Candy
coming out from under. We have noticed that she does not play with toys.
Hopefully that will change when she relaxes.
Anyway, just wanted to keep you
in the loop.
Let us know about the piebald.
Regards,
Barbara

Kobe - Adopted
in September 2006
(formerly Tyson
and Big Moe)
Tyson was
adopted by a wonderful couple last weekend, we are so happy that he has
found a new forever home, especially the great environment that he has
brought into! We here at rescue know that puppies are work, and that it can
get frustrating at times! Hang in there! We anxiously await updates and
pictures about him from his new mommy and daddy.

UPDATED
MARCH 2007
Just
an update on Kobe, the former Tyson. We
have renamed him because he has become quite a ball player. Every
evening my husband plays ball with him and he has a record catch of 12 in
a row. (our other Doxie never seemed interested in playing catch)
He is very smart--probably smarter than we are. He has finally
gotten the idea of doing his "duty" outside. The way he asks out is just
to sit in front of the door looking out. No barking, just sitting there
looking outside.
He has learned to sit on command-usually. I have him sit before I
feed him and then tell him it's okay to eat.
He loves his ball! We have gates put up on the entrances to the
kitchen area. These are very nice gates I bought from Orvis. But they
are wood and Kobe purposely puts his ball through the spokes, into the
other area, and then barks for us to retreive. If we don't do as we're
commanded and retreive the ball, he starts chewing on the spokes. I've
almost wanted to change his name to Beaver, as it looks like we've had a
beaver in the kitchen.
When playing catch with him, sometimes he takes the ball to his
water dish and drops it in and then fishes it out. I'll try to attach a
picture of him with a pan full of balls. I thought if he got so much
enjoyment out of dropping his ball in the water dish, he'd really have fun
with a pan full. It's about like a kid bobbing for apples.
If the sliding door is opened he will also poke the ball between the
door and screen door and then either try and get it out or bark for
us. It seems he just trys to find a way to hide the ball. This morning
he dropped it in the pool and then came to the kitchen and got me and led
me out to get it. Don't worry, I don't go off and leave him alone in the
pool area.
He is on a part raw diet. I buy all his food at Centenialla,
including an Organic canned food and also organic raw chicken patties. I
fed him half a can (small) a.m. and p.m., mixed with about 3/4 of the
pattie and a handfull of organic dry. He gets sliced apples and carrots
for treats, and when I buy lettuce and clean it, I cut the end off for him
to chew on (not iceberg). We also have bought him a large knuckle bone
which he enjoyed and would even try to carry it to bury. If his picture
comes through to you ok, you might notice a skinned spot on the top of his
nose. I gave him a marrow bone on day this week and after chewing on it
he enjoyed trying to hide and bury it. Of course he had to take his nose
to do that, thus the skinned spot.
He is built differently than our other doxie. Kobe seems to have a
layer of fat just under his skin, whereas our other doxie felt very
muscular and solid.
One of his very bad habits is trying to eat anything and everything
he can find--pulls up grass and eats, digs the roots of the Lily of the
Nile as well as roses and will chew them, and any piece of wood or
material that has fallen from a palm tree. It seems his mouth has to be
chewing constantly! I wonder if he is neurotic?
We've even considred putting a mussel (I know that's not
spelled right, but too lazy to look up and figured you'd know what I mean)
on him when he goes into the yard.
He has a good disposition.
Almost forgot, he loves to sneak up on the kitchen table! If we
don't pull our chairs completely away or shove them tight, he gets up on
the table and then chews napkins or anything else he can find. Today,
(when I took the attached pix) I found him again on the table even tho' I
had the chairs pushed tight. I had watched him from around the corner,
unbeknownst to him, and he will squeeze in front of the chairs under the
table and actually shove a chair out to jump on it and then jump on the
table. Of course I don't yell at him as don't want him jumping off.
Do you suppose he will outgrow chewing on things he finds in the
yard?

HAVEN'S RESPONSE TO THE CHEWING: SPRINKLE CAYENNE PEPPER IN THE AREAS WHERE
YOU DON'T WANT THEM AROUND. THE SMELL IS STRONG ENOUGH TO DETER THEM YET
WON'T HURT THEM IF THEY DO GET A TASTE OF IT.
Update October
14, 2006
I swear he has doubled in size since we got him a few weeks ago. He
is so beautiful and such a sweet personality. Ten days ago we "rescued"
a nine lb. chihuahua from off the street and have been searching for his
owner. In the mean time "Skippy" and Tyson have become play mates and
wear each other out as they play chase. Tyson goes to the office with me
every day and in the evening he insists on sitting with either myself or
my husband, draping his limp body over our leg. He reminds me of what a
rag doll cat must be. When you try and pick him up he rolls over on his
back and just goes limp. He is curious about everything, picking up
leaves, sticks, clogs of dirt, rocks. (I really have to watch him). He
has so much energy.

Kaylie Runkle
Adopted in November of 2005

Dear Sid & Chris
I thought you might like to see the baby girl in her new home She has become
so special that she has sleeping privileges in our bed at night. We are so
happy to have her. The big dog and her take naps together. When they race
through the house it sounds like a hundred dogs running. She is so quick
that he has a hard time keeping up. When he does she dives under the chairs
and stares out at him as if to say I am just to fast for you. Any way we are
very happy with her. Thanks again for introducing us to the Dachshund line
of dogs. We think their great. If the home owners Assn would allow us more
than two dogs we would come back and take another. Thank you so much.
Yours truly,
David and Sandy Runkle

Phoebe- Adopted in February 2006
Dear Chris and Sid,
Happy New Year!!!
I cannot believe it
has almost been a year since we adopted Phoebe. She had her yearly check
up and was passed in "excellent health". Everybody loves Phoebe at the
Animal Hospital. I hope you received our Christmas card with our daughter
and the furkids. Still haven't heard Phoebe bark, she just whines when I
am preparing their dinner. Then again, there is really no reason for her
to bark. Everything is perfect for her.
Bruno, incidentally, is a changed dog. He no longer gets anxiety
attacks when we place him in the kennel....he now has Phoebe so he is
happy.
Hope all is well at
your end.
Regards, June

Dipstick AKA "Dippy" Adopted in
December 24, 2005
Dipstick's momma was a puppymill turnover. And like most turnovers, they
were unaware of her mother's pregnancy. Surprise, surprise, a few weeks
later, Dipstick was born, along with her sister, Patches, a long haired pie
bald, who looks identical to her, and a black and tan short hair like dippy.
Dipstick was adopted by the Kozlowski family from Yorba Linda and joins her
little piebald sister named Enya. They are a great pair and she is thriving
in her new home.
