Please notice that all of our little ones have not been tested with cats or small children.  So unfortunately, we do not know how they react with them.

However, sometimes they come to us with these little quirks and we will be sure to inform you of anything that we know of their attitude and personality quirks.

Most dogs especially the older ones (12 months and older) are house trained and can either use a doggie door or have a door left open for them; however most of the time there WILL be a few accidents in the beginning as all of the dogs are nervous and uncomfortable.  But with the proper discipline this behavior should stop within a few weeks.)

Any dachshunds that have longhaired or wirehaired coats will need to be groomed on a regular basis, otherwise things can get caught in their coat and lack of grooming can cause hair matting, which can be painful for the dogs if not properly taken care of.  Many local groom shops should have knowledge on how to properly groom your longhaired or wirehaired dachshunds.

Also please know that even though we spend a lot of time with these dogs, caring, vetting and evaluating them and their personalities, each dog is an individual and although may act one way with us, may have a different attitude with other people.  This is what makes "Meet and Greets" so important, please make sure that every person (and dog) who will be living in the home, with the dog, is present at any "Meet and Greet" that is scheduled.

SASSY

bullet Age:  Sassy (app. 2 years old)
bullet Color: Silver/Tan Dapple
bullet Coat:  Smooth
bullet Size:  Tweenie

Sassy is a cute little "Choxie" or a Chihuahua and Doxie Mixed together.  She is a cutie, she has the coat, attitude, eye color, and even the body and stature of a dachshund, but yet she has the short little ears and the little longer legs of a Chihuahua.

She is a sweetheart.   Sassy has now been spayed and up to date on all her shots.

Sassy will be a great dog in any home.  She would be a good lap dog, but is also independent enough that she doesn't need to be "velcroed" to you at all times.  She is playful and loving and would do well with a partner or by herself.

She would do well with children 8 years old and up only, who has dachshund experience.

Adoption fees for Sassy are to be announced.

If you are interested in adopting Sassy (not her puppies as they won't be ready for some time)...please fill out an application.

GINGER

bullet Age:  8 years old
bullet Color: Red
bullet Coat:  Long Hair
bullet Size:  Tweenie app. 15 lbs

Ginger is a beautiful red headed mother who, along with her puppy (Pugsley), was dumped in a shelter.  Why an 8 year old dog was allowed to breed or was not fixed prior to this, is anyone's guess, but thankfully, she came out of it well and so did her cute little guy.  Ginger is a beautiful sweet little girl who wants to love and be loved by anyone.

Ginger has a sweet demeanor and loving attitude.  She is a little shaky of people at first but once she gets to know you and relaxes around you, she will smother you with kisses if she gets the chance.  She needs and deserves a good home, where she could be a lap dog but could also get some well needed exercise in a large yard and/or on frequent walks with her new family (once she is settled in, of course).

She is playful and loving and would do well with a partner or by herself.

She would do well with children 8 years old and up who has dachshund experience.

Adoption fees for her has not been set yet.

Ginger has been spayed and is now ready for her new forever home.

If you are interested in adopting Ginger, please fill out an application.

PUGSLEY

bullet Age: Approximately 7 months old
bullet Color: Red and White Dapple
bullet Coat:  Smooth
bullet Size:  Tweenie

Pugsley is a cutie pie.  He was dumped in a shelter a few weeks ago, with his mother Ginger.  He is approximately 7 months old and is not ready to go anywhere yet and won't be ready to go for a little while longer.  We will keep everyone apprised of the situation, but please do not send emails asking for status updates or if you can buy him or adopt him now, all of those emails will be ignored.  If there is anything to know, it will be located here, on his bio.

Pugsley is young enough, where he would do okay by himself, but since being in rescue and being born Pugsley has had other younger dogs to play with so he is extremely playful and social.  Meaning, a playmate would be preferred for him.

This little guy would do well with children 8 years and up with dachshund experience.

The adoption fee for Pugsley has not been set yet.

If you are interested in Pugsley, when he is ready, please fill out an application.

Please be patient.  You may fill out an application now, but until he is ready to go we will be placing your application to the side...as we must take care of the applications for the dogs that are ready to be placed now.

BE BE AND SNICKERS

bullet Age:  Bebe - 2 1/2 years old (Daughter)   Snickers - 4 years old (Mom)
bullet Color: Bebe - Red/Black Undertone & Snickers - Chocolate Dapple
bullet Coat:  Bebe -  Long Haired &           Snickers - Smooth
bullet Size:  Tweenies

Bebe and Snickers are a beautiful and intelligent spoiled rotten mother daughter bonded pair that came from an owner turn in.  Unfortunately, severe allergies to the dogs prompted the owner to turn over these little girls.  She tried everything in order to keep them, as they were her life.  They were loved and cherished by their mama before and we want nothing less for their new home.

Bebe and Snickers both have very sweet demeanors and once they trust you and their surroundings, they become the sweethearts we know them to be.  They need and deserve a good home, where there will never be a fear of them being taken away from one another and they can live and play and be happy with their new forever home and family.

They are both very playful and loving and are a bonded mother-daughter pair and MUST stay together.

They both would do well with children 10 years old and up who has dachshund experience.

Adoption fees for her has not been set yet.

Bebe and Snickers are both spayed and are up to date on all of their shots.

If you are interested in adopting Bebe and Snickers, please fill out an application.

FRESNO DOGS INFORMATION ONLY

  1. All dogs ages are approximate and are estimated up (we apologize for not knowing exact ages, but in situations like this, we have to go off of the information given by the vet who examines them)

  2. All rescues from this group are extremely shy and timid at first.  But once they get to know a person and are relaxed they become loving and affectionate.

  3. Most of the dogs are laid back and get along with other dachshunds of any sex and/or age.

  4. All of these dogs would do well and thrive in a home with a dachshund educated child 8 years and above

  5. Any other quirks will be individually listed in their bios.  (please read the bios as some are different and may require different care from the rest.)

  6. All of the dogs from this group have been fully vetted, vaccinated, spayed/neutered and cared for and are ready for placement in their new homes.

  7. The adoption fees will be set soon and are based off of what we have invested in the dogs, not the color coats etc.

bullet Coat:  Smooth
bullet Size:  Mini/Tweenie app. 11 pounds

Cookie is a beautiful Chocolate dapple girl from Fresno, so please be aware of the conditions in the box above.

Cookie would do okay by herself, however, due to her age and being a younger girl, she is and can be playful, when she finds the right partner and when she feels stable and secure in her new home.

Cookie was the mother to 3 beautiful little puppies who have all since been placed.

Cookie has been spayed, fully vaccinated and is completely ready for her new home.

The adoption fees for Cookie have not been set yet, but will be soon.

If you are interested in Cookie, please fill out an application and make sure to mention her in the appropriate spot.

CHARLIE

bullet Age:  9 years old
bullet Color: Red and White PieBald
bullet Coat:  Smooth
bullet Size:  Tweenie 13 lbs.

Charlie is a beautiful red and white pie bald smooth boy looking for a new home.  He is an owner surrender who turned him over when she realized that she had too many dogs to take care of.

He is a very sweet and laid back boy and loves to wag his tail, however, until he gets his bearings and trusts with a certain person, he is a bit standoffish.  Which is to be expected, so please don’t think that this behavior would be a permanent thing, as with all dogs, especially rescue dogs, he has trust issues which will work themselves out with the right forever home.

He would be a good lap dog for someone, who is home a lot and can baby and play with him.  He would be okay by himself with a person who will be around a lot or he would also do very well with another dachshund, male or female, does not matter.

We are unsure how he would do with little children, but he should be okay with children with dachshund experience and are 8 years and older.

The adoption fee for this guy has not been set yet.

If you would like to adopt this guy, please fill out an application.

RINGO AND HONDO

bullet Age:  3 years olds (Brothers)
bullet Color: Black and White Pie Balds
bullet Coat:  Smooths
bullet Size:  Tweenies app. 15 lbs.

Ringo and Hondo are two more brothers from the breeder in the Northern California area. We believe that Hondo is the one with the white stripe straight up the middle of his head, Ringo is the one with the white stripe that curves.

They are both sweet boys but are extremely shy.  They love to wag their tails and give kisses once they are comfortable with you, however, until they get their bearings and trust with a certain person or people, they can be a bit standoffish.  Which is to be expected, so please don’t think that this behavior would be a permanent thing, as with all dogs, especially rescue dogs, these guys have trust issues which will work themselves out with the right forever home.

They are crate and house trained, and actually sleep together in their crate at night.  They know when you say "go to bed", and head right in and settle down.

They both are neutered and up to date with all shots.  They will need a home that is patient and understanding and a dachshund savvy owner who will appreciate and enjoy their silliness and someone who is home a bit to work with them on their shyness and fear.  We don't believe they would do well with children, so we suggest teenagers or older with these guys...we don't believe a very active loud household would do well with these little ones nerves.

These two boys need to stay together.  The adoption fee for these guys have not been set.

If you are interested in Ringo and Hondo together, please fill out an application.

GUNNER

bullet Age:  4 years old
bullet Color: Black and Tan
bullet Coat:  Smooth
bullet Size:  Tweenie

Gunner is a cutie.  He is a 4 year old black and tan smooth coated guy from Fresno who came down from the same breeder who passed away approximately six months before she passed away.

As with all of the dachshunds that have come from Fresno breeder, he is a bit timid and fearful at first.  But once he gets used to your presence and his surroundings, he becomes a happy little guy.

He would do well in a home with another dachshund or alone.  He doesn't seem to need a preference at this point, he plays with both males and females.

However, this little guy is terrified of small children and cannot go into a home with any small children.  Teenagers 13 and up may do okay, however...since we are unsure of any age bracket we would suggest if you are interested in Gunner, and have older children 13 and above, that they are present at any "Meet and Greet".

Gunner is neutered and up to date on all shots.

Adoption fees for Gunner is $175.00

If you are interested in Gunner, please fill out an  application

BUSTER AND BOW

bullet Age: Bow- 3 yrs & Buster -10 yrs
bullet Color:  Bow- Red & Buster- Black/Tan
bullet Coat:  Smooths
bullet Size:  Tweenie (15 lbs)

These guys are too cute!  These two are from California.  Buster is the Black and Tan Smooth, approximately 10 years old.  He is a laid back and mellow guy.  He ended up being a turned over because his owner could no longer care for him.

Bow is the red smooth coat, approximately 3 years old. Bow is so named because of his legs, he is about as “bow legged” as they come, however, it means nothing to him, as it causes him no problems whatsoever.

Bow is a former shelter dog who ended up being that way because his owner could no longer care for him.  The owner gave him to the owner of Buster in order to keep him out of the shelter, however, it did not help because they ended up both being turned over to rescue.    Bow is a bit of a barker and we are working with him on that to try to break him of that habit.

They are both housebroken.  They can be adopted together or separate as long as the situations are right for them.  They both should have a partner to play with.   We are unsure on how they would do with children at this time.

The adoption fee for Buster and Bow is $ 200.00 or $125.00 for one.

If you are interested in these guys please submit an  application.

We are currently vetting, bathing, working with and evaluating "furkids" for placement in their forever homes; please check back...

It is common for most dogs to go through separation anxiety and fear when they go into a new home from adoption, it is usually calmed when the dog realizes after a few weeks that he or she is safe and will not be going anywhere because their new families love them.  If you are applying to adopt you must automatically know that this IS a more than a possibility for your new adoptee to react this way.

AND IN RARE SITUATIONS DOGS MAY GO THROUGH EXTREME SEPARATION ANXIETY WHERE IT CAUSES A NEGATIVE EFFECT ON THEIR HEALTH.

PLEASE GO TO THE FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS PAGE TO SEE A SECTION ON SEPARATION ANXIETY.

If you are interested in one of the following fur-kids please follow the following outline:
1.   Fill out an application.
2.  Once the application has been submitted, you should recieve a

confirmation page.  Please follow the instructions in the confirmation page.

3.  Be Patient.  The adoption process takes time and patience.
4.  We try to respond to applications immediately, however, there are certain circumstances where we are not able to respond to emails or telephone calls  right away due to volume of applicants, or even personal issues.
5.  Please remember, when scheduling a "Meet and Greet" you must make sure that everyone who will be living with the dachshund full time must be present at the Meeting, including, other animals.  We do this to evaluate the situation and see how the dachshund reacts to the living situation and other animals in the house.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Chris or Dawnie.

For an update on all the "fur kids" to find their forever homes check the Home At Last  page.  If you have adopted a dachshund from our Rescue  or other rescues and would like to share your adoption story or update, we love to hear from you and we love to post them on our site as a way to show all the people that these little ones CAN have a happy ending.

We also love to hear from funny or cute dachshund stories too, if you would like to share and have it placed on our site or some of your favorite pictures we would love to see them and put them on our site as well.

Please send us an email to the webmaster at Duranie@dslextreme.com  or to Chris Jacobson at CEEJAYS03@aol.com.  Either way we will contact you to inform you that your story and/or pictures will be placed on our site.

Dachshund Haven Official Rules and Adoption Policies

All dachshunds adopted through "Dachshund Haven of Garden Grove"  shall be fully vaccinated, spayed/ neutered and all known illnesses or personality quirks shall be addressed to and disclosed to the person adopting the dachshund(s).   All spays/neuters and vaccinations and health issues will be addressed  before hand however, after the adoption process takes place, taking your newly adopted little one to your own vet is always wise as it establishes the dog in their records.   Once adopted the adopter is fully responsible for any and all vet bills including updated shots and yearly exams along with any other medical care the dog may or may not need.

Adoption fees are decided by Chris Jacobson are NOT up for negotiation.  Fees are set based on how much we have invested in the dog.  For example, we pay for spay/neuter on the dog(s), their dentals if they need them and most of them do, and then their vaccinations and then we take into consideration how long we have had the dog in our care and how much time we have spent working with the dog.  Age, sex, coloring and coat type, has nothing to do with our fees.   Adoption fees are non-refundable.

When dachshunds are set as a pair there is usually a reason for it.  Due to bonding, whether sibling bonding or just plain friendly bonding over time, a pair is a pair and "Dachshund Haven" will not separate and adopt one or another.

If you are considering adopting a dachshund and want to visit one, than arrangements can be made by emailing or telephoning Chris Jacobson for visits.  WE ARE NOT AN OPEN FACILITY FOR PEOPLE TO SHOW  UP AND BROWSE OR PLAY WITH DOGS.  ANY POTENTIAL ADOPTION OR MEET AND GREET MUST HAVE AN APPOINTMENT .

Adopting a dachshund is a big decision as it requires responsibility and love.  A dachshund will be held for one week while a decision is made, after that if no contact than the "furkid" will  be placed back up for adoption to another adopting person.

We appreciate contact, so if you decide that the time is not right to adopt than a courtesy call or email to say such would be appreciated and your name and application will be kept for future reference.

"Dachshund Haven of Garden Grove" would like to remind everyone that adopting a rescue dog is different than buying a puppy from a breeder or a pet store.  Often the dachshunds have been through a lot and because of it some may have behavioral issues or quirks which need to be worked on.  Most of the time, we work with them and ease them out of it, but sometimes the hurt is so bad it never really goes away, which discourages people and often finds dachshunds back at rescue or in shelters.  These are not "bad" dogs, they just need to time to adjust, to be loved and cared for and the comfort of a stable home.    But, if at any time you take possession of one of "Dachshund Haven's" furkids" and you find that you honestly cannot take care or that the situation is just not working out, than "Dachshund Haven" CAN AND WILL TAKE THE DOG BACK in order to keep them out of the kill shelters.

Certain dogs come with certain quirks or behavioral problems.  Applications will be reviewed closely as certain dogs cannot be placed in certain environments.  Please be as honest as you can because these fur-kids will becoming a member(s) of your family.   Some dachshunds do well with children, others do not, some do great with men, some do better with women.  Usually dachshund by nature have what we lovingly call "short man's syndrome" and have issues with bigger dogs, some don't have any fear at all.

No home will be considered if the housing complex does not allow pets.  We do not allow our dogs to be "hidden" in apartments, condos or any rental homes.

Dachshund Haven of Garden Grove Rescue and Sanctuary adopt our dogs to homes where the dogs will live in indoor life as a house pet, and companion and to be exercised only in a fenced yard OR in an open outdoors situation with leashes only.   Our dogs should not be kept outdoors while no one is home to supervise or for very long periods of time (even with other dogs present, no matter the size or situation).

You must be over 21 years old to adopt a dachshund.  If you plan on adopting than the dog must be for you.  We do not allow "gifts" of dachshunds.  If you live with other family members, roomates, etc. than they must approve of adopting a rescue dog. "Dachshund Haven" reserves the right to conduct a home inspection before placing the dachshund.

No home, condo or apartment complex will be considered without a fence. As well as any home, condo or apartment complex with an open non-fenced pool.

If you are interested in a puppy, than a proper adoption process must be done.  A proper application with true and correct information, a proper "Meet and Greet" and a home visit will be scheduled.  We do not for any reason give out referrals to breeders or puppy mills.  Bribes or promises of donations are not acceptable and will not be considered in any way shape or form.  Any emails sent to us asking to "purchase a dog" will not be responded to.

Dachshund Haven of Garden Grove" reserves the right to refuse to adopt any dog to anyone that we feel is unsuitable for a dog.
