Please notice that all of our little ones have not been tested with cats or small children.  So unfortunately, we do not know how they react with them.

However, sometimes they come to us with these little quirks and we will be sure to inform you of anything that we know of their attitude and personality quirks.

Most dogs especially the older ones (12 months and older) are house trained and can either use a doggie door or have a door left open for them; however most of the time there WILL be a few accidents in the beginning as all of the dogs are nervous and uncomfortable.  But with the proper discipline this behavior should stop within a few weeks.)

Any dachshunds that have longhaired or wirehaired coats will need to be groomed on a regular basis, otherwise things can get caught in their coat and lack of grooming can cause hair matting, which can be painful for the dogs if not properly taken care of.  Many local groom shops should have knowledge on how to properly groom your longhaired or wirehaired dachshunds.

PLEASE KNOW THAT ALL MEET AND GREETS WILL BE SET BY CHRIS AT HER CONVENIENCE.  THESE MEET AND GREETS ARE IMPORTANT AS THEY SHOW HOW THE PEOPLE/ANIMALS WHO WILL BE LIVING WITH THE DOG(S) INTERACT WITH ANY POSSIBLE RESCUE FOR THIS REASON, ALL THE PEOPLE WHO WILL BE LIVING WITH THE DOG AND THE ANIMALS IN THE HOUSE MUST BE PRESENT AT THE MEET AND GREETS.

To view Fritz's full story, view the link below.

Fritz our little mange boy, who was looking so horrible when we first got him, is now fully recovered, and needs to find his forever home.  He is a happy and active little guy who deserves a great forever home.

Obviously, when you read that he has mange, people's first reaction is that it could be contagious.  Fortunately, for Fritz and us, he had the non contagious kind, that was easily treatable.  He looks wonderful now, although he does have some scarring, where he would scratch his head and bleed and some spots on his back.

But this means nothing to Fritz, because first, he can't see them, and secondly, if you didn't know his story and how bad he actually was when we first got him, you would never have guessed it by looking at him now.  He looks great, acts like a good little boy and is very active.

Fritz can go into an open home.  He should have a playmate(s) to play with or if not, someone who will enjoy playing with him, walking him and all around just spending alot of quality time with him.  He would be okay with children over the age of 8, with dachshund experience.

He is not picky, he would not mind either a brother and/or a sister...just someone around his age, who he can play wrestlemania with and snuggle with when he takes naps.

Tax deductable fees are to be announced.

If you are interested in adopting Fritz, please fill out an application.

Coat:

Size:

 Approximately 16 pounds

Children:

 Dachshund Experience 12 & Up

Sex/Status/Vaccinations:

 Male/Neutered/UTD Vaccines

Skippy is a very playful red head smooth dachshund turned over to us approximately about a year and a half ago. Skippy was turned over by a family who had small children. They did not have time for Skippy, so he was given to us to find him a forever home, where he could be the playful little guy that he is!

He is a little overweight but we think in an home with another active dog or an active home life with lots of walks or a big yard to run around in may change all that.

He is a doll and is very playful but also loves laps! He is neutered and is up to date on all of his shots!

He would be a great dog in any home. He likes to play with his adopted brothers and sisters and would do well with another dog.

Or if not another dog, he would like to have a younger active person who has dachshund experience (above the age of 12) who will pay alot of attention to him and play with him alot.

Tax deductible adoption fees for Skippy are to be announced.

If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application.

Bebe and Snickers

Age:

 Bebe- 4 years old

Snickers- 5 years old

Color:

Chocolate Dapple

Coat:

Bebe- Recessive Long Hair

Snickers- Smooth

Size:

 Approximately 12 pounds

Approximately 12 pounds

Children:

 Dachshund Experience 12 & Up

Sex/Status/Vaccinations:

Females/Spayed/UTD Vaccines

Bebe is a beautiful and intelligent spoiled rotten daughter to her mom Snickers.  Snickers is a beautiful chocolate dapple female.

They are a bonded pair that came from an owner turn in. Unfortunately, severe allergies to the dogs prompted the owner to turn over these little girls. She tried everything in order to keep them, as they were her life. They were loved and cherished by their mama before and we want nothing less for their new home.

Bebe and Snickers both have very sweet demeanors and once they trust you and their surroundings, they become the sweethearts we know them to be. They need and deserve a good home, where there will never be a fear of them being taken away from one another and they can live and play and be happy with their new forever home and family.

They are both very playful and loving and are a bonded mother-daughter pair and MUST stay together.

They both would do well with children 10 years old and up who has dachshund experience.

Bebe, being longhaired will need to be groomed on a regular basis, otherwise things can get caught in her coat and cause matting, which can be painful for the her if not properly taken care of. She does not necessarily need to go to the groomer as her hair is not like other long hairs. In other words she has "short, long hair". (sorry to anyone if that does not make sense). Maintenance brushing, with a proper grooming brush, on Bebe would be all that really is required of her, with a nice trip to the groomers every other month or so.

Most dogs especially older ones are housetrained, like these little guys are, they can use a doggy door. However, it should be reminded that there will be few accidents in the beginning as all of the dogs are nervous and uncomfortable in new surroundings, until they get accustom to their new home. With proper discipline from the beginning, and corrective techniques, this behavior should stop within a few weeks.

Tax deductable adoption fees for her has not been set yet.

Bebe (and Snickers) are both spayed and are up to date on all of their shots.

If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application.

Bow is the red smooth coat, approximately 3 years old. Bow is so named because of his legs, he is about as “bow legged” as they come, however, it means nothing to him, as it causes him no problems whatsoever.

Bow is a former shelter dog who ended up being that way because his owner could no longer care for him. The owner gave him to the owner of Buster (below) in order to keep him out of the shelter, however, it did not help because they ended up both being turned over to rescue. Bow is a bit of a barker and we are working with him on that to try to break him of that habit.

Bow is housebroken, is neutered and up to date on all of his shots.

He would be a great dog in any home. He likes to play with his adopted brothers and sisters and would do well with another dog.

Or if not another dog, he would like to have a person who can love him and who will pay alot of attention to him and play with him alot.

We are unsure how he would do with small children at this time.

Color:

Black and Silver Dapple

Coat:

Smooth

Size:

Approximately 15 pounds

Children:

Dachshund Experience 12 & Up

Sex/Status/Vaccinations:

Male/Neutered/UTD Vaccines

Miley is an adorable little guy who was turned over to a high kill shelter with a lot of other dachshunds.  The reason for the turn over was not given.  We can assume it was a breeder seizure but we cannot say for sure.  Needless to say, the dogs got a second chance at life the day that rescue came into their lives.

Miley is a loving little boy who can be a bit shy at first.  He is a very loving little guy, once he gets to know you, but like any dog can be shy and timid at first and in situations that are new or unfamiliar.  Once he gets to know his new home environment and the people and animals in it, he will come out of his shell and be the very active and playful fun loving little guy that we know he is.

Miley is neutered and up to date on all his shots.

He would be a great dog in any home. He likes to play with his adopted brothers and sisters and needs to have another dachshund/doggie companion so he can play and be his rambunctious self.   He also loves to snuggle up to people and lay on warm laps for hours at a time.

Miley needs a forever home who has dachshund experience.  Someone who will understand his shyness and work with him on making him comfortable in his new home, so that he knows he is safe to romp and play with his new family.

We believe that Miley would do well with children with dachshund experience (above the age of 12) who will pay alot of attention to him and play with him alot.

Most dogs especially the older ones (12 months and older) are house trained and can either use a doggie door or have a door left open for them; however most of the time there WILL be a few accidents in the beginning as all of the dogs are nervous and uncomfortable.  But with the proper discipline this behavior should stop within a few weeks.

Tax deductible adoption fees for Miley are to be announced.

Coat:

Long Hair

Size:

Approximately 18 pounds

Children:

Dachshund Experience 12 & Up

Sex/Status/Vaccinations:

Johan is an adorable little black and tan long haired guy who was turned over to a high kill shelter with a lot of other dachshunds.  The reason for the turn over was not given.  We can assume it was a breeder seizure but we cannot say for sure.  Needless to say, the dogs got a second chance at life the day that rescue came into their lives.

Johan is one of the most mellow laid back little guys we have ever met.  He is so loving and trusting.  He is perfectly happy laying next to you, on your lap, at your feet or following in your footsteps.  Don’t get us wrong…he has his moments of activity where he likes to run and play…especially when there are treats involved…

Johan is neutered and up to date on all his shots.

He would be a great dog in any home. He likes to play with his adopted brothers and sisters and although he can be an only dog, would work well with another dachshund/doggie companion so he can play and frolick every now and again.

Like all dachshunds Johan is smart…and he has a way of finding his way into treat containers and bags if they are kept on a low shelf…so care will need to be taken when storing food and treats on low shelves around Johan.

Johan would do well in any type of household.  He would do great as an dog for an older couple who love cuddles, kisses and spoiling their fur kids.

We believe that Johan would do well with children with dachshund experience (above the age of 12).

Old Peko- Special Needs

Age:

 Approximately 4 Years old

Color:

 Red Double Dapple

Coat:

 Recessive Long Haired

Size:

 Approximately 12 pounds

Children:

Dachshund Experience 12 & Up

Sex/Status/Vaccinations:

Male/Neutered/UTD Vaccines

Old Peko is an adorable double dapple long haired guy who was turned over to a high kill shelter with a lot of other dachshunds.  The reason for the turn over was not given.  We can assume it was a breeder seizure but we cannot say for sure.  Needless to say, the dogs got a second chance at life the day that rescue came into their lives.

Old Peko is a double dapple dachshund.  It is a genetic flaw in the breeding and happens when two dapples or pie balds breed.  The puppies that are born have a high chance of being born with special needs issues.  Some are born without eyes, ears, tails or even vital organs.  Others are born deaf, blind or with medical issues.  When animals are born with issues, they know no different and have amazing ways of adaption.

Old Peko is one of those double dapples who have issues with his eyes.  His eyes are malformed and we do not know how well he can see but he can definitely see well enough to get around.  He can navigate his surroundings very well and once he gets to know his new home will do the same.  We believe his hearing is fine.

Old Peko is neutered and up to date on all his shots.

Old Peko is one of the most mellow laid back little guys we have ever met.  He is so loving and trusting.  He is perfectly happy laying next to you, on your lap, at your feet or following in your footsteps.  Don’t get us wrong…he has his moments of activity where he likes to run and play…especially when there are treats involved…

We believe that Old Peko would do well with children with dachshund experience (above the age of 12).  We believe that he needs a dachshund experienced home and if someone has experience with blind or hard of seeing dogs, it would be a plus.  It takes a special home for a special dog...

Tax deductible adoption fees for Old Peko are to be announced.

RAZZ

Age:

 Approximately 9 weeks old

Color:

 Red with Black Undertones

Coat:

 Smooth

Size: (fully grown)

 Approximately 10 pounds

Children:

 Dachshund Experience 12 & Up

Sex/Status/Vaccinations:

Male/Neuter Contract/1st & 2nd Shots

Razz is a smooth red with black undertones male from Shaunty’s litter.  He is very cute and playful.

Being a puppy, whoever adopts Razz or any of the puppies will need to have dachshund puppy experience in training/re-enforcement of behavioral do’s and don’ts, including potty training, chewing, etc.  This is an important must because dachshunds/dogs cannot tell the difference between their squeaky shoe chew toy and your $900 pair of expensive shoes.

With no direction a puppy will do what he/she wants when he/she wants to do it and you are left with the aftermath mess and upset.  Puppies in general have short attention spans and can lose interest in things very quickly and when they get  bored they go looking for things to do (and that usually means trouble) OR they bark/cry and whine.  If you have your heart on a puppy and find that no one will be in the house for long hours at a time, a lone puppy may not be the best situation for you at this time.    In situations where you may be gone long hours of the day, we usually suggest partners for the puppies/dachshunds because that way they tend to keep themselves entertained and don’t get in quite so much trouble.

Razz is a sweetheart and is VERY playful….all puppies, including Razz have had their first and second vaccinations.  They still need their final vaccinations and when they are adopted, they are adopted on Spay/Neuter contracts, no exceptions.  We are held to laws and rules that we must abide by when dealing with dogs too young to be spayed or neutered before they are placed in a forever home.

He would be a great dog in any home. He likes to play with his brothers and sisters and although he can be an only dog, would work well with another dachshund/doggie companion so he can play and frolick every now and again especially if you plan on leaving a them alone for more than a few hours each day.

We believe that Razz would do well with children with dachshund experience (above the age of 12).

Puppies will need to be potty/house trained using either a doggie door, a door left open or a set outside time every few hours or crate training them with pee pads.  This litter has proven to be very smart and has learned to pee on pee pads, if the new adopters are consistant they may be able to continue the crate/pee pad training, however, most of the time there will be a few accidents here and there…that is to be expected…but with proper training and discipline the accidents should minimize as time goes on.

Tax deductible adoption fees for puppies are to be announced and they will be combined with the “spay and neuter contract".

Dachshund Haven Official Rules and Adoption Policies

All dachshunds adopted through "Dachshund Haven of Garden Grove"  shall be fully vaccinated, spayed/ neutered and all known illnesses or personality quirks shall be addressed to and disclosed to the person adopting the dachshund(s).   All spays/neuters and vaccinations and health issues will be addressed  before hand however, after the adoption process takes place, taking your newly adopted little one to your own vet is always wise as it establishes the dog in their records.   Once adopted the adopter is fully responsible for any and all vet bills including updated shots and yearly exams along with any other medical care the dog may or may not need.

The information asked for above, is important in order for us to know a potential adopters background and current situation.  The information above is for DHOGG's use only. We DO NOT sell, give, borrow, or lease any information of any kind to anyone else.  Initial and most contact is done through email, including the confirmation of the application and any follow up questions for people that we may have before we proceed with an applicant via telephone for the next step.

Please note, once an application is submitted, the contact information goes into our database and any email addresses go onto our contact list.   It should also be noted that once an email is on our list (whether the person has adopted a dog from us or not), we may ask questions and/or update people about any events and/or fundraisers we may be having at any given time.   Many potential and past adopters like to know about upcoming events in the search for the right dog for adoption and/or just to socialize.  Any person has the right to opt out of our email list.

If at any time they no longer wish to be on our email list, then we will remove them upon a request asking us to do so.  IF at any time, a person wishes to be removed, we will send a confirmation of the request and inform the person requesting that the email address has been removed...after that, contact will cease from DHOGG.

If you have adopted a dog from us, then we put you on adopters email list, which means we can/will continue to communicate about the dog's well being for a while and get updates and pictures from the adopters, as well as, send information about fundraisers/get togethers or picnics and adoption events we will be at, in case people want to drop by and socialize.

Adoption fees are decided by Chris Jacobson are NOT up for negotiation.  Fees are set based on how much we have invested in the dog.  For example, we pay for spay/neuter on the dog(s), their dentals if they need them and most of them do, and then their vaccinations and then we take into consideration how long we have had the dog in our care and how much time we have spent working with the dog.  Age, sex, coloring and coat type, has nothing to do with our fees.   Adoption fees are non-refundable.

When dachshunds are set as a pair there is usually a reason for it.  Due to bonding, whether sibling bonding or just plain friendly bonding over time, a pair is a pair and "Dachshund Haven" will not separate and adopt one or another.

If you are considering adopting a dachshund and want to visit one, than arrangements can be made by emailing or telephoning Chris Jacobson for visits.  WE ARE NOT AN OPEN FACILITY FOR PEOPLE TO SHOW  UP AND BROWSE DOGS WITHOUT AN APPOINTMENT .

Adopting a dachshund is a big decision as it requires responsibility and love.  A dachshund will be held for one week while a decision is made, after that if no contact than the "furkid" will  be placed back up for adoption to another adopting person.

We appreciate contact, so if you decide that the time is not right to adopt than a courtesy call or email to say such would be appreciated and your name and application will be kept for future reference.

"Dachshund Haven of Garden Grove" would like to remind everyone that adopting a rescue dog is different than buying a puppy from a breeder or a pet store.  Often the dachshunds have been through a lot and because of it some may have behavorial issues or quirks which need to be worked on.  Most of the time, we work with them and ease them out of it, but sometimes the hurt is so bad it never really goes away, which discourages people and often finds dachshunds back at rescue or in shelters.  These are not "bad" dogs, they just need to time to adjust, to be loved and cared for and the comfort of a stable home.    But, if at any time you take possession of one of "Dachshund Haven's" furkids" and you find that you honestly cannot take care or that the situation is just not working out, than "Dachshund Haven" will gladly take the dog back in order to keep them out of the kill shelters.

Certain dogs come with certain quirks or behavioral problems.  Applications will be reviewed closely as certain dogs cannot be placed in certain environments.  Please be as honest as you can because these fur-kids will becoming a member(s) of your family.   Some dachshunds do well with children, others do not, some do great with men, some do better with women.  Usually dachshund by nature have what we lovingly call "short man's syndrome" and have issues with bigger dogs, some don't have any fear at all.

No home will be considered if the housing complex does not allow pets.  We do not allow our dogs to be hidden in apartments, condos or any rental homes.

Dachshund Haven of Garden Grove Rescue and Sanctuary adopt our dogs to homes where the dogs will live in indoor life as a house pet, and companion and to be exercised only in a fenced yard OR in an open outdoors situation with leashes only.   Our dogs should not be kept outdoors while no one is home to supervise or for very long periods of time (even with other dogs present, no matter the size or situation).

You must be over 21 years old to adopt a dachshund.  If you plan on adopting than the dog must be for you.  We do not allow "gifts" of dachshunds.  If you live with other family members, roommates, etc. than they must approve of adopting a rescue dog. "Dachshund Haven" reserves the right to conduct a home inspection before placing the dachshund.

No home, condo or apartment complex will be considered without a secure fence. As well as any home, condo or apartment complex with an open non-fenced pool.

If you are interested in a puppy, than a proper adoption process must be done.  A proper application with true and correct information, a proper "Meet and Greet" and a home visit will be scheduled.  We do not for any reason give out referrals to breeders or puppy mills.  Bribes or promises of donations are not acceptable and will not be considered in any way shape or form.  Any emails sent to us asking to "purchase a dog" will not be responded to.

Dachshund Haven of Garden Grove" reserves the right to refuse to adopt any dog to anyone that we feel is unsuitable for a dog.
