PLEASE NOTICE THAT ALL OF OUR LITTLE ONES HAVE
NOT BEEN TESTED WITH CATS OR SMALL CHILDREN. SO UNFORTUNATELY, WE DO
NOT KNOW HOW THEY REACT WITH THEM.
HOWEVER, SOMETIMES THEY COME TO US WITH THESE
LITTLE QUIRKS AND WE WILL BE SURE TO INFORM YOU OF ANYTHING THAT WE KNOW OF
THEIR ATTITUDE AND PERSONALITY QUIRKS.
Note: Most
dogs especially the older ones (12 months and older) are house trained and
can either use a doggie door or have a door left open for them; however most
of the time there WILL be a few accidents in the beginning as all of the
dogs are nervous and uncomfortable. But with the proper discipline
this behavior should stop within a few weeks.)

It is common for most dogs to go
through separation anxiety and fear when they go into a new home from
adoption, it is usually calmed when the dog realizes after a few weeks that
he or she is safe and will not be going anywhere because their new families
love them. If you are applying to adopt you must automatically know
that this IS a more than a possibility for your new adoptee to react this
way.
AND IN RARE SITUATIONS DOGS MAY GO
THROUGH EXTREME SEPARATION ANXIETY WHERE IT CAUSES A NEGATIVE EFFECT ON
THEIR HEALTH.
PLEASE GO TO THE
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS PAGE TO SEE A SECTION ON SEPARATION ANXIETY.

UPDATE AS OF NOVEMBER 2008
Most of these little ones came from a breeder turn in from the Fresno
area or a separate breeder in the Northern California area. The
dogs from this breeder a little older but you would not know it by their
behavior.
Most can go to an open home. Others have
certain needs.
Please read individual bios for more accurate information.
Also please know that even though we spend a lot of time with these
dogs, caring, vetting and evaluating them and their personalities, each
dog is an individual and although may act one way with us, may have a
different attitude with other people. This is what makes "Meet and
Greets" so important, please make sure that every person (and dog) who
will be living in the home, with the dog, is present at any "Meet and
Greet" that is scheduled.
Normally our pictures are dark and candid
shots, since our camera has a mind of it's own. However,
thankfully, an Anderson family member with professional equipment took
his time to come out and take some really nice, clear pictures of the
dogs for us. We are sure you will know which ones are his... We
appreciate it Dave! |

Age:
8 years old (DOB app. 9/27/2000) Sex: Male
Color/Coat:
Red and White Pie Bald Smooth Size: Tweenie (13 lbs)

Charlie is a beautiful red and white pie bald smooth boy looking for a
new home.
He is a very sweet and laid back boy and loves to wag his tail,
however, until he gets his bearings and trusts with a certain person,
he is a bit standoffish. Which is to be expected, so please don’t
think that this behavior would be a permanent thing, as with all dogs,
especially rescue dogs, he has trust issues which will work themselves
out with the right forever home.
He would be a good lap dog for someone, who is home a lot and can baby
and play with him. He would be okay by himself with a person who
will be around a lot or he would also do very well with another
dachshund, male or female, does not matter. We are unsure how he
would do with little children, but he should be okay with children
with dachshund experience and are 8 years and older.
Right now he still needs to be neutered and have a dental on him
before he will be ready to adoption. We are shooting for him to
be ready for placement either right around the holidays or right
after.
He may not be ready for his home yet, but we still want your
applications and are still setting up "Meet and Greets" for him.
Note: Most

8 years old (DOB app. 9/04/2000) Sex: Female
Color/Coat:
Red and White Pie Bald Smooth Size: Mini (10 lbs) |

Curly is a beautiful little red pie bald girl with a funky tail. We
do know know what happened to it to make it look the way it does but
at this point, it doesn’t matter. It does not hurt her and does not
cause her any problems whatsoever.
Although Curly is a little girl (short and stocky), she is one tough
cookie. She is definitely a dominant or alpha personality
and should be with a submissive male or by herself. Any
other matches would probably not work. Most of the time, she has
a very sweet and loving demeanor, until she starts bossing everyone
around. She then becomes the guard dog and will bark at anything
and everything around.
We believe she would do well with children with dachshund experience 8
years and above.
Curly was spayed on November 19, 2008.
Note: Most
dogs especially the older ones (12 months and older) are house trained and
can either use a doggie door or have a door left open for them; however most
of the time there WILL be a few accidents in the beginning as all of the
dogs are nervous and uncomfortable. But with the proper discipline
this behavior should stop within a few weeks.)
Adoption fees for Curly are $175.00

UPDATE ON BUTCH AND SUNDANCE
THESE GUYS ARE ABSOLUTE LOVES!
WE WOULD LOVE TO FIND THEM HOMES TOGETHER, BUT THEY WOULD BE OKAY
APART AS LONG AS THEY HAVE A PARTNER WITH THEM. THESE GUYS ARE
YOUNG WITH A LOT OF ENERGY AND NEED HOMES WITH A PLAYMATE. WE
HAVE LOWERED ADOPTION FEES BUT STILL NEED THEM TO GO TO THE APPOINTED
HOMES STATED ABOVE!
Butch and Sundance are two brothers from the breeder in the Northern
California area. They are beautiful boys with deep red hair and we
believe may even have some either dappling or pie in them, because you
can see in the sun the different color of the coats. They are both
sweet boys and love attention. They are not really shy but can be a
bit timid when first meeting people.
There is not much difference in them, in fact we have trouble telling
them apart, because they look so much alike. However, we have
noticed that Sundance is a bit smaller then Butch and has a little
smaller features then his brother.
They love treats and can be a bit food picky but that usually ends
when they realize that they either eat the food they are given or they
don’t and end up hungry until the next time food goes down.
We are unsure how he would do with children, but believe they would do
okay with children with dachshund experience and are 8 years and
older.
We of course, want them to go together, however, they can go
separately, but if they go separately, they must go into a home with
another dachshund to play with. They are very playful and active
and must have a partner in crime to play with.
They are both neutered and up to date on shots.
Note: Most
dogs especially the older ones (12 months and older) are house trained and
can either use a doggie door or have a door left open for them; however most
of the time there WILL be a few accidents in the beginning as all of the
dogs are nervous and uncomfortable. But with the proper discipline
this behavior should stop within a few weeks.)
Adoption fees for Butch and Sundance together is $400.00 or $250.00
for one.
If you are interested in Butch and/or Sundance, please fill out an
application..
***Please remember to note if you are interested in both or which one
you would be interested in adopting in your applications.

RINGO AND HONDO
Pictures to come of them...
|
|
| |
Age:
2 ½ years old (DOB: 12/25/06 brothers) Sex: Male(s)
Color/Coat:
Black and Tan Piebald Smooth Size: Tweenies (approximately 16
lbs) |
|
| |
Ringo and Hondo are two more brothers from the breeder in the Northern
California area. They are beautiful boys with smooth coats and are
Black and Tan piebalds.
They are both sweet boys but are extremely shy. They are very sweet
boys and love to wag their tails and give kisses once they are
comfortable with you, however, until they get their bearings and trust
with a certain person or people, they can be a bit standoffish.
Which is to be expected, so please don’t think that this behavior
would be a permanent thing, as with all dogs, especially rescue dogs,
these guys have trust issues which will work themselves out with the
right forever home. We are working hard with them to try to get them
feel a little more stable and comfortable.
Their behavior may completely turn around here in the next few weeks
or it may stay the same and they may not truly come out of their
shells until they get into their forever home with their new family
and they know and trust that they will not be left and the people that
have them will love them forever. But only time will tell with these
little guys.
They both are neutered but will need to find the right home to go
to...they will need a home that is patient and understanding and
someone who is home a bit to work with them on their shyness and fear.
It would do no good to adopt these guys and be gone 8 hours a day.
We don't believe they would do well with children, so we suggest
teenagers or older with these guys...we don't believe a very active
loud household would do well with these little ones nerves.
These two boys need to stay together. Pictures of these boys are
to come...they are hard to get a pictures of because they are so shy.
We will get some up though.
Note: Most
dogs especially the older ones (12 months and older) are house trained and
can either use a doggie door or have a door left open for them; however most
of the time there WILL be a few accidents in the beginning as all of the
dogs are nervous and uncomfortable. But with the proper discipline
this behavior should stop within a few weeks.)
Adoption fees are to be determined.

AMBER
 |
|
| |
Age:
6 years old Sex: Female
Color/Coat:
Dark Red Sable/Brindle Size: Mini (9 lbs) |
|
| |
This little girl
is just too cute. But so extremely shy. We are definitely
working with her on it...but it is taking time.
She is a
beautiful deep red sable or even brindle...however you want to
classify her...she is gorgeous and small at about 9 pounds.
This little
girl is a puppy mill mama, who went past her prime and was given to us
by a anonymous breeder who has agreed to give us their unwanted and
undesirables...we have recieved many many dogs from these people and
have placed all of them in forever homes, with the exception of a
sanctuary dog or two. She is completely debarked...we
don't know why they chose to do this to her...when she barks it sounds
like a cough or a sneeze. It is awful, but apparently she is in
no pain.
We are trying
to work with her on her shyness but it seems that what this little
girl needs the most is a calm home, by herself where she can be a lap
dog...we would love to get her in a new home soon, to make
transitioning easier for her. We don't believe she would
do well with children or cats.
Note: Most
dogs especially the older ones (12 months and older) are house trained and
can either use a doggie door or have a door left open for them; however most
of the time there WILL be a few accidents in the beginning as all of the
dogs are nervous and uncomfortable. But with the proper discipline
this behavior should stop within a few weeks.)
Adoption fees are to be determined.

THE ORPHAN
 |
|
| |
UPDATES ON ORPHANS AS OF
FEBRUARY 10, 2009
THE LITTLE ORPHAN GIRL IS
ALMOST READY TO BE ADOPTED! SHE IS DEFINITELY A
CHIHUHUA
DOXIE MIX OR WHAT SOME PEOPLE CALL
CHOXIES
OR CHIWEENIES.
EITHER WAY, SHE HAS THE HEAD OF A
CHIHUHUA
AND LEGS OF A DACHSHUND. AN UPDATED PICTURE IS COMING SOON! AND
ADOPTION FEES HAVE BEEN SET!
UNFORTUNATELY, DUE
TO MEDICAL ISSUES, WE HAVE LOST TWO OF OUR LITTLE ORPHANS. THE
PURE BLACK ONE, AND THE LITTLE CREAM GIRL. THE VET DOES NOT KNOW
WHY THE LITTLE GIRL PASSED AWAY, AS SHE DIED IN HER SLEEP, BUT THEY DO
BELIEVE THE OTHER ONE WAS HYDROCEPHALIC (WATER IN THE BRAIN). HE
ALSO DIED PEACEFULLY.
NOW THE GOOD NEWS.
ONE LITTLE ORPHAN HAS SURVIVED AND IS QUITE A LITTLE EATER. SHE
HAS A HUGE APPETITE AND IS AT A GOOD WEIGHT FOR HER AGE. THE VET
SAYS SHE IS A HEALTHY LITTLE GIRL.
SHE IS
ACTIVE AND JUST RECENTLY FOUND THAT SHE HAS A VOICE AND NOW THAT SHE
HAS FOUND IT, SHE IS USING IT! WE BELIEVE THAT THIS LITTLE GIRL
IS A MIX BETWEEN A CHIHUAHUA AND A DACHSHUND. WE KNOW THE MAMA
WAS A DACHSHUND. THAT IS AS MUCH AS WE KNOW. BUT AS
SHE AGES, WE CAN SEE HER FEATURES ARE VERY CHIHUAHUA LIKE, HER COLOR
IS A CROSS BETWEEN A CHOCOLATE AND A BLACK COLOR, DEPENDING THE LIGHT
SHE IS IN. WE WILL TRY TO GET UPDATED PICTURES SOON AND WILL
KEEP YOU UPDATED.
The orphans are
about 7 days old now. They were given to a shelter.
Apparently, the mama died either while giving birth or shortly after.
Now we have them and are nursing them via a bottle. We thankfully,
have several surrogate mommies here, just because they get fixed
doesn't mean they lose the mommy in them, so the mama baby bonding is
being taken care of and so is the bottle feeding by mama Chris.
There is alot
going on right now. And these guys are definitely a big part of
our time. We don't believe they are full dachshund. But
whatever they are going to be is fine with us, because we want these
guys to have a fair chance in life. There is one that looks like
a cream or even a white, maybe even some dappled in there, then there
is one that is pure black and the other is a weird chocolate/black and
almost isabella but he is not a dapple or pie bald so he is an odd
color. They all are. But cute nonetheless.
These little
guys will not be ready for adoption for several weeks (8 weeks).
If you are interested in adopting one of these little ones, please
fill out an application. Submit your application, and send us
the follow up email. That is all that is required. An
email every day, other day, or even every week asking us if you can
adopt the dog yet is not necessary. We will keep updates on the
site, and contact you when it becomes time to place the little ones.
Adoption fees
are 125.00
If you are
interested in adopting a puppy in 8 weeks...submit an
application.

GUNNER
 |
|
| |
AGE: 3 years old
SEX: Male
COAT/COLOR: Black and Tan Smooth
SIZE: Tweenie
|
|
| |
Gunner is a cutie.
He is a 3 year old black and tan smooth coated guy from Fresno.
As with all of the dachshunds that have come from Fresno, he is a bit
timid and fearful at first. But once he gets used to your
presence and his surroundings, he becomes a happy little guy. He
would do well in a home with another dachshund or alone. He
doesn't seem to need a preference at this point, he plays with both
males and females. However, this little guy is terrified of
small children and cannot go into a home with any small children.
Teenagers 13 and up may do okay, however...since we are unsure of any
age bracket we would suggest if you are interested in Gunner, and have
older children 13 and above, that they are present at any "Meet and
Greet".
Gunner still needs
to be neutered, but that will happen very soon, possibly this week.
We are still taking applications.
Adoption fees for Gunner is $175.00

interested in Gunner, please fill out an

ARCHIE
Pictures to come... |
|

AGE: 11 months old
SEX: Male
COAT/COLOR: Black and Tan Smooth
SIZE: Tweenie
|
|
| |
UPDATES ON ARCHIE FEBRUARY 2009
ARCHIE IS STILL OUR WORK IN PROGRESS...WE ARE REALLY TRYING TO WORK
WITH HIM ENOUGH THAT HE COMES OUT OF HIS FEAR OF HUMANS. WE WILL
CONTINUE TO WORK AS MUCH AS WE CAN AND HOPE THAT HE CAN ONLY FIND A
HOME WHERE HE CAN BE AN ONLY DOG AND GET A LOT OF HUMAN ATTENTION!
Archie is our work in progress. We love him a lot and
are doing what we can to work on his socialization with humans.
Archie is another Texas dog and has an unknown background, so we do
not know why he is so shy and fearful around humans. However, we do
know that he is very healthy and a beautiful boy. He loves playing
with other dogs and has no problem pouncing on them. We are happy to
report that he is making progress in the short time that he has been
with us. He is now beginning to initiate contact with us on his own.
He is going to be worked on some more before he can be placed.
Adopters interested in him need to have a young male or female dog
with a playful streak that they can play and romp around together. We
are also looking for adopters for him that will be home a bit more
than normal, so that he doesn’t feel abandoned. Once he is placed, he
will still need his new family to work with him on his shyness and
fearful streak, so please no one who will be gone 6 to 8 hours a day
will work for this guy. Also due to his fear of people, we are
requesting, no families with small children (older children 12 and up
are okay as long as they are properly taught and work with the dog)
He is 80 percent housebroken and we are continuing work with him on
that issue as well.
The adoption fee for Archie is $300.00
If you are interested in these guys please submit an
application.

AGES: APPROXIMATELY 1 YEAR OLD (EACH)
COLORS/COAT: Black and Tan Smooth (male)
Black and Tan Long Hair (female)
SIZE: Minis ( 6 to 7 pounds)
|
|
| |
UPDATES: THESE GUYS ARE GREAT! AND DEFINITELY NEED TO GO
TOGETHER SINCE THEY ARE SO STRONGLY BONDED! WE HAVE LOWERED THE
ADOPTION FEES ON THESE GUYS!
These two litter mates are a bit of mystery to us.
They both come from Texas with a unknown background. After much
review they are either one of two things. They are either a mix
of dachshund with some other kind of breed (either Chihuahua or
terrier, often done in attempt to make tea cup doxies, which do not
exist) or they are poorly bred dachshunds.
They look like a pair of cutie dachshunds, they have
the attitudes of dachshunds, but their little legs are just a bit
longer than the typical dachshund. This means nothing to us or
them. They are both very happy and healthy little dogs.
They are playful and bouncy and we are currently working with them on
the jumping. They tend to jump a lot when they get excited (not
good for doxies backs), which we are trying to break them of.
They are currently completely housebroken. We
believe they would be great with children (as long as they were taught
the proper way to treat dachshunds). We would like to see them
stay together. However, we would be willing to separate them, if
they were to go into a home with the proper situation. This means a
home with another playful dachshund for them to romp and play with.
The adoption fee for Missy and Jack is $300.00
If you are interested in these guys please submit an
application.

BUSTER (BLACK AND TAN) & BOW(RED) |

Bow
Buster

BUSTER UPDATED PICTURE MAY 2008
|

Age: App. 2 years old Sex: Male
Color/Coat: Red Smooth Size: Tweenie
app. 15 lbs.
Age: 9 years old Sex: Male
Color/Coat: Black and Tan Size: Tweenie 15 lbs. |
|
| |
These guys are too cute! These
two are from California. Buster is the Black and Tan Smooth,
approximately 9 years old. He is a laid back and mellow guy. He
ended up being a turned over because his owner could no longer care
for him.
Bow is the red smooth coat,
approximately 2 years old. Bow is so named because of his legs, he is
about as “bow legged” as they come, however, it means nothing to him,
as it causes him no problems whatsoever. Bow is a former shelter dog
who ended up being that way because his owner could no longer care for
him. The owner gave him to the owner of Buster in order to keep him
out of the shelter, however, it did not help because they ended up
both being turned over to rescue. Bow is a bit of a barker and we
are working with him on that to try to break him of that habit.
They are both housebroken. They do
play together, but they also play separately a lot. They can be
adopted together or separate as long as the situations are right for
them. They both should have a partner to play with. We
are unsure on how they would do with children at this time.
The adoption fee for Buster and Bow is
$ 200.00
Or
$125.00 for each one on it's own
If you are interested in these guys please submit an
application.

REMINDER TO ALL

Since the announcement of puppies on our site,
we have had a huge response asking to "sell" our puppies outright to
people. We have had past requests to do the same with some of our
other dogs!. This is a rescue site and not a breeder site, so we do
not "sell" any of our little ones to anyone for any reason.
If you want a puppy, and do not wish to go
through the process of adoption, then you can contact a reputable
breeder if you choose to do so.
We are a rescue, more often then not, we do
not have a nice work relationship with breeders or puppy mills as they
continue to defeat our purpose of rescue by breeding way too many dogs
in our society that has too many unwanted ones already. The only
exception to this, is if these breeders and mills decide to turnover
some of their so called "rejects" and most of the time the
relationship ends with them turning over their unwanted little ones to
us and further they often wish to remain anonymous.
We
do not have any "referrals" regarding breeders or puppy mills.
We work hard to place our many rescued little
ones into stable loving homes. All of our applications are in fact
reviewed carefully before contact is made. This makes all of the
information asked on the application extremely important to us. So
please be completely honest about the facts on your application. We
have caught a few people in some "fibs" with the information they give
on their applications submitted, which makes it had to trust them with
one of our fur-kids, so we have to pass them over or take the dogs
back.
PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT US AND ASK US TO PURCHASE THE DOGS OUTRIGHT. WE
DO NOT OFFER THOSE SERVICES HERE.
IF
YOU WANT TO ADOPT THEN YOU MUST FILL OUT AN APPLICATION AND AGREE TO
THE ADOPTION POLICIES INCLUDING, HOME CHECK VISITS AND A SPAY
CONTRACT. THERE WILL BE NO ACCEPTATIONS TO THIS RULE!!!
For
now the descriptions of the ones that we have in our possession
currently are on the
Available Dogs
page; as well as updated bios of the available dogs and more are to
come so keep checking back.

For an update on
all the "fur kids" to find their forever homes check the
Home At Last
page. If you have adopted a dachshund from our Rescue or other
rescues and would like to share your adoption story or update, we love
to hear from you and we love to post them on our site as a way to show
all the people that these little ones CAN have a happy ending.
We also love to
hear from funny or cute dachshund stories too, if you would like to
share and have it placed on our site or some of your favorite pictures
we would love to see them and put them on our site as well.
Please send us an
email to the webmaster at
Duranie@dslextreme.com
or to Chris
Jacobson at
CEEJAYS03@aol.com.
Either way we will contact you to inform you that your story and/or
pictures will be placed on our site.

We try to keep everyone informed of when

Dachshund Haven
Official Rules and Adoption Policies

All dachshunds adopted through "Dachshund Haven of Garden Grove" shall be fully vaccinated, spayed/ neutered and all known illnesses or personality quirks shall be addressed to and disclosed to the person adopting the dachshund(s). All spays/neuters and vaccinations and health issues will be addressed before hand however, after the adoption process takes place, taking your newly adopted little one to your own vet is always wise as it establishes the dog in their records.
Once adopted the adopter is fully responsible for any and all vet bills
including updated shots and yearly exams along with any other medical care the
dog may or may not need.
Adoption fees are decided by Chris Jacobson are NOT up for negotiation. Fees are based upon the age, coat type and coloring of the particular foster dachshund and also depends on issues such as vaccinations, health checks and other needs and expenses of the dachshund. Adoption fees are non-refundable.
When dachshunds are set as a pair there is usually a reason for it. Due to bonding, whether sibling bonding or just plain friendly bonding over time, a pair is a pair and "Dachshund Haven" will not separate and adopt one or another.
If you are considering adopting a dachshund and want to visit one, than arrangements can be made by emailing or telephoning Chris Jacobson for visits.
WE ARE NOT AN OPEN FACILITY FOR PEOPLE TO SHOW UP AND BROWSE DOGS WITHOUT
AN APPOINTMENT .
Adopting a dachshund is a big decision as it requires responsibility and love. A dachshund will be held for one week while a decision is made, after that if no contact than the "furkid" will be placed back up for adoption to another adopting person.
We appreciate contact, so if you decide that the time is not right to adopt than a courtesy call or email to say such would be appreciated and your name and application will be kept for future reference.
"Dachshund Haven of Garden Grove" would like to remind everyone that adopting a rescue dog is different than buying a puppy from a breeder or a pet store. Often the dachshunds have been through a lot and because of it some may have
behavioral issues or quirks which need to be worked on. Most of the time, we work with them and ease them out of it, but sometimes the hurt is so bad it never really goes away, which discourages people and often finds dachshunds back at rescue or in shelters. These are not "bad" dogs, they just need to time to adjust, to be loved and cared for and the comfort of a stable home. But, if at any time you take possession of one of "Dachshund Haven's" furkids" and you find that you honestly cannot take care or that the situation is just not working out, than "Dachshund Haven" will gladly take the dog back in order to keep them out of the kill shelters.
Certain dogs come with certain quirks or behavioral problems. Applications will be reviewed closely as certain dogs cannot be placed in certain environments. Please be as honest as you can because these fur-kids will becoming a member(s) of your family. Some dachshunds do well with children, others do not, some do great with men, some do better with women. Usually dachshund by nature have what we lovingly call "short man's syndrome" and have issues with bigger dogs, some don't have any fear at all. "
