Dachshund Haven Sanctuary
On top of being
a rescue we are also a sanctuary. We are considered this because we allow
several of the unwanted dogs, dogs deemed unfit for adoption for one reason or
another to stay with us. They stay with us, retiring so that they can finish
off their lives in a safe and loving environment. Although these are by no
means all of them we do have pictures of a select few (due to the fact some just
don't want to be photographed)
Please note that
these dogs are not up for adoption.
Some of the
sanctuary dogs are:

Raggedy
Annie
Raggedy Annie so named because of
her ears…came from a puppy mill in Texas. Her ears became chewed up by the
horrible practices of the breeding in a puppy mill. Basically she was left in
the presence of aggressive male(s) and the beat up on her. She came in 2004
and was malnourished and raggedy looking. Now she is a healthy happy weight and
is trusting of people again. We are happy to keep her here with us.

Double Dapple Candy
Double Dapple Candy came from a
breeder in Nebraska who had basically bred her several times and no longer
wanted her so instead of spaying her, and then retiring her to a wonderful
rescue or home, they sold her on the internet, claiming that she “threw
beautiful puppies”. Rescue paid the asking price for her, flew her out here and
immediately spayed her and since she has lived in retirement bliss. She was
born deaf, but had most of her vision, until recently. She has slowly lost her
vision to where she can barely see now. She will continue to live with us at
rescue.

Peanut

peanut 2007

Peanut is a 5 month old red
brindle girl. She is itty bitty. She tops the scales at 3lbs 2 oz.
Peanut was turned over to
rescue due the fact her former owners did not want to deal with, what was
diagnosed as a "heart murmur".
When Peanut was first turned
over she appeared to have so much energy and life to her, and other than her
small stature for her age, that seemed to all that was wrong with her.
However, all vet records prior and examinations showed signs of a heart murmur.
She was automatically taken
to Dr. Frank Moore, where a thorough examination was performed on Peanut.
Dr. Moore, found no signs of a heart murmur and nothing abnormal about Peanut.
If Peanut does have a heart
murmur, it is only a very slight one. We will continue to keep a very close
watch on her and monitor her condition. Peanut will remain here as a
Sanctuary dog due to her small size and any future medical issues she may or may
not have.
For now, Peanut has full
reign of the house, she is allowed to romp, play wrestlemania, pull on
everyone's ears (that allow her to) and run throughout the house and yard.
She is allowed to play for
between 15 minutes to a half an hour at a time, at that point, she has to take a
time out and rest and is put in her crate to do so by Mama Chris.
Check back for updates on
Peanut as time goes on.

Baron

Baron is a 11 yr old male red smooth hair
dachshund who's original owners had to go into assisted living.
Unfortunately, for Baron the
family was unable to take him into their home, so for 42 days he was
boarded at a facility in Garden Grove. Although he was taken very
good care of there, 42 days was a very long time to leave this guy
there. We were very happy to help when the family contacted rescue
so that we could pull him from the facility and place him in our foster
care where he is able to roam and not be confined to a cage 23 hours of
the day and sleep where he wants.
Since coming into rescue, he has been neutered
and had a dental. Baron is a very sweet boy. After much
debate, we decided that we had had no one inquire about Baron since
being placed on the site almost a year ago. We decided that his
age has made him become a sanctuary dog. He is very happy and
healthy boy and we expect him to live many long years here with us as a
sanctuary dog.

TYSON
TYSON 2007
Tyson is a little 2 year old black and tan puppy mill turn over.
He is a friendly, loving guy, who likes to run, romp and play.
Due to the fact that
he has extreme separation anxiety, it was determined that he would need to
be placed as a sanctuary dog.
Tyson has lived his
entire life in rescue. Which has made it more and more difficult as
time goes on to find him a home. It was a difficult decision as we
believed if we found him the right home he would thrive. After
several tries we found that his mental health depended on him living his
life out here with us.

YOSHI

Who says blind dogs can't swim? This is Yoshi. He came to us
approximately six months ago. He is completely blind and has been that
way since birth. Again, only a minor issue for him, because he has
learned to navigate his way around the house and knows everyone by sound and
smell. He loves daddy Syd and Mama Chris. We expect him to
live a long happy life with us here. |

SAGE

Sage is a
10
year old mini longhair male. Sage was a breeder turn in due to a
closure of a kennel. He has lived with us here in rescue for
over two years with no one interested in him to adopt. It is a serious
shame because Sage is one of the best dogs that we have around here.
However,
due to the fact that we have not had anyone interested in him, despite our
constant advertising of him and asking around at Meet and Greets and
Picnics. He has not been placed. After two years living in this
home in general public, it would be cruel to uproot him and place him with
some strangers at this stage.
Unfortunately, this seems to be an ongoing pattern. Sage is an awesome
dog, who just happens to be too old for people. Unfortunately, until
we get the message out there that rescue is not always going to have puppies
and young dogs for adoption and that older dogs need rescuing too,
situations like Sage will continue to happen. He will live his life
out here with us in retirement.
